Advanced
Geotechnical Analysis

EGL can undertake a range of complex analyses to help you develop geotechnical solutions for your project. We work for infrastructure owners, structural engineers, fellow geotechnical engineers, councils, government agencies and insurers on large or difficult projects that lend themselves to more advance laboratory and analytical assessment methods.

These more advanced approaches are the future of geotechnical engineering when paired with experience and judgement. They can better define the effects and refine solutions for projects to extend understanding beyond conventional calculation methods. We assist many projects with Peer Review of these aspects, providing fair and reasoned challenge and advice.

OUR SERVICES INCLUDE:

Seismic Hazard Analysis

We can undertake seismic hazard analysis, including deterministic and probabilistic, to provide the best-estimate spectra for performance-based seismic designs.

Site Response Analysis and Effect

We can undertake 1D and 2D site response analysis and assess site specific effects, especially for the sites with cyclic strength softening, topographic amplification or basin effects.

Time History Selection

We can assist you with rigorous time history selection for your non-linear structural or geotechnical analyses, incorporating with the outcomes from hazard analysis and the features of the object to be analysed.

Detailed ground settlement and consolidation assessments for complex situations

Site Specific Liquefaction Assessment

We can undertake site-specific static and cyclic liquefaction assessments, including scoping of specific sampling, and laboratory testing also interpretation of investigation results. We are experienced in dealing with liquefaction of tailings and materials with unconventional nature.

Dynamic FEM Analyses

We run dynamic FEM analyses for a range of structures including earth embankments, quay walls and foundation-soil-structure-interaction problems. We are experienced in numerical analyses, utilising advanced constitutive soil models.

We use Wallap, Fs-Consol, Geostudio package, DEEPSOIL, FLAC, Plaxis and custom calculations to support our analyses.

We work on large dam projects both in New Zealand and internationally, and inhouse research experience (PhD) leads us to the expertise which can assist you on your project.
